<<Cyndi Lauper concert and bumming around>>

Saturday

Last night, I watched my taped shows until the wee hours of the morning. It was cool.

I got up this morning at around 09:30. I read the newspaper, something that I haven't done as often as I should. I had breakfast and then got on with my day.

I'm not on the voter's list. When I go for my deputy returning officer training, I'm going to register then. The last municipal election was in 2003. I was in Winnipeg then.

I don't get the wiring in the den. I'll have to investigate that further down the road. My new motion detection light switch has four wires that are all coloured differently. The existing wiring at home only has black and white. That has thrown me off.

I had lunch at around 13:00. I showed at 14:00, which is exceptionally early for me. I then headed out at 15:30, stopping at the bank to withdraw some money. I pulled into the sales coordinator's driveway. She was outside, having a smoke and talking on the phone. I decided to get my car charger out with the two cigarette lighter ports. I had to charge both my iPod and my cellphone.

So, we chatted for a bit outside. Her sister was upset and was venting to her on the phone. I looked behind me and noticed a house with lavender squares on its garage door. It looked bad on a white background. It's funny how I noticed that today in the daylight. Normally, when I'm chatting with the sales coordinator outdoors, it's dark.

She invited me in and we spent some time looking at her sister's CDs and trying to book a hotel for our little road trip in November. I was pleased that she had Depeche Mode's 101 CDs. I don't have them, so she's burning them for me.

We left her house at 17:00 for dinner. We visited a Chinese restaurant close to her place. I actually ordered and read the Chinese on the menu. I was so pleased! We had beef and leafy vegetables on rice noodles, and this tomato dish with sliced ham and hot dogs. They were surprisingly good. Our conversation was equally as intriguing.

She told me that she had noticed the revised cubicle plans on the president's wife's desk. As predicted, she wants spy girl to sit closest to the wall. Funny, but normally, human resource folks don't sit where the grunt workers are. She truly does not need to sit where the rest of us do. She's there to spy. So, I'm okay with sitting where I was initially assigned. Hey, at least I tried.

We left the restaurant at nearly 19:00 and I drove us up to Casino Rama. I decided to try driving up from Whitby. So, I took highway 7 to highway 12 and kept on driving north. I actually shaved off half an hour of travel time, compared to taking highway 400. It was great.

It rained intermittently. The sales coordinator ended up venting about our former boss. I decided to let her go at it. She then calmed down and felt bad that I didn't get a word in. That's okay. I think she would have chopped my head off had I even tried. To make up for that, she gave me some licorice balls and cinnamon mints to try out as we headed up north. It was a good drive.

Sadly, parking was a nightmare up at the casino. I ended up parking in front of the administration building. I didn't care. We had twenty minutes to spare before the concert.

Luckily, I figured out where to go. We had to visit the washroom before finding our seats. We were facing the stage, in the twelfth row. I was pleased. Sure enough, Cyndi Lauper came out with a hat and a black, long coat. She sang, as if her song was being played on a record player. Then, she took off both her hat and coat, revealing her outfit that consisted of a pair of dark black jeans and a vest-like blouse. She played her recorder and sang "What I think about you."

She went into the crowd a lot more this time around. At one point, she was walking across the row in front of us. Oh my gosh! She actually stopped in front of us. I was awe-stricken. She such a short, small bundle of energy. It was amazing seeing her that close. I will truly not forgot this moment. I think the sales coordinator is my lucky concert charm.

Cyndi sang a lot of her songs off her Body acoustic CD. One of my favourite songs is "Sisters of Avalon," which has a special meaning for her, too. She had written the first few lines of the song after a number of interviews in Hong Kong.

She's going on a True Colours tour next year. Erasure is on the card. I can't wait! I love them both.

Cyndi sang one new song that she was working on. Overall, the concert was a good mixture of all her material, both oldies and new. At the end of the concert, she had her band showcasing their stuff. That was terrific. I particularly enjoyed the lead guitarist (a woman... yay!) and the violin/viola/mandolin player.

She has exceptionally sharp hearing. She constantly answered questions that folks were screaming out to her from the audience. She's one funny woman. It was nice to see the sales coordinator enjoying herself.

Naturally, Cyndi came back to do an encore. I know she sang "Time after time" (another of my favourite songs) and "Money changes everything." I can't recall what song she started the encore off with.

There was audience participation during "Girls just wanna have fun," which sticks in my mind the most. It was a terrific show and it was worth the 1.5-hour drive up to Rama.

The show ended at 22:45. We decided to get some drinks. She got Stewart's key lime drink and I got the orange crush version. A guy behind us in the checkout line said that Cyndi Lauper was in her thirties. We both knew that he was wrong. On top of that, he had really bad breath.

We proceeded outside where she had her smoke. We were joined by a Casino Rama employee and had a good chat with him about the show. He let us know that there were corporate events happening tonight, too. That would explain why the parking was so bad. Apparently, the weather was nasty up in Rama earlier. There was hail that we had luckily missed. The conversation was great and he thanked us for it.

The sales coordinator and I went back into the casino and looked at the products that our employer has sold to it. It was nice to see them in action, but it was kind of sad doing that on our day off. We were then getting peckish, so we split a huge plate of poutine and we both had a hot dog each.

I think we left the joint at 00:30 and I drove us home. We had a good time talking about how strange the president's son is. Instead of taking highway 12 all the way down to Whitby, I did a detour and took highway 48, which ultimately becomes Markham Road. I got her home before 02:00. She offered to let me hang out at her place and even sleep over. I took a raincheck and proceeded home, getting there at 02:20.

It was a great night out.

Sunday

I woke up at 11:00. I don't normally sleep in like that. My leg pain was heightened last night due to driving for such a long period. However, it did not change my sleeping patterns. That is an excellent sign.

I spent the day reading the newspaper and listening to music. I've taken it easy. I noticed that my employer isn't in the top 50 best employers list that was in Saturday's edition of the Toronto Star. That's not a huge revelation.

My good friend wrote an e-mail, asking if I'd be at her band's show this Friday. I'm definitely going. It's the least I can do to support her band's new CD.

Earlier today I booked my plane ticket to Winnipeg for next month. I used my Aeroplan points. I only paid $41.50 for my ticket. Go me!

The Bombers won against Hamilton this afternoon. Yay! I'm getting my Grey Cup tickets in the mail towards the end of the month.

I'm off to rip and burn some CDs. Too bad the weekend's nearly over.
