I got to work and gave the extra shipment I had received from Amazon.ca to the sales coordinator. I asked a number of people if I should send the shipment back to Amazon.ca, for it was Canada Post that had screwed up the first order, delivering it to a school instead of me. The consensus was to keep it. I didn't need two copies of the same DVD and CD, so I gave them away. She was thrilled to get them and immediately played the music on her computer. It's nice to make the day of someone. iPod boy (DJ) came in and said good morning, like usual. We barely spoke to each other all morning. It was pretty hectic on my end. First, I received an e-mail from the quality assurance (QA) woman, asking me to take release notes and convert them to standard company release notes. She had copied neon boy (PC) and asked him to provide me with a time line. His response was that it had to be delivered as soon as possible, stating that the customer has been asking for this since Friday. My view is that if you're not going to specify when you want me to complete the notes, and you have given me this work to do on such short notice, that I'm going to start on it and assume that I have at least a day to work on this. So, I started working on this, when the moocher came over and also had to get release notes out. His deadline was today at 13:30. So, I threw down PC's task and worked on the notes for the moocher. Sadly, the notes I had received from a developer were difficult to interpret, so I had to go and talk to him. He's a nice person with the same last name as I. There was far more clarity discussing these points with him than trying to decipher what he was trying to convey in text. During my entire time talking to him at his cubicle, I could see that DJ was watching what I was doing. He's strange that way. Perhaps he wasn't used to my being hunched over someone's desk. I rarely do that. I continued to work on this document, ultimately completing it at around 13:00. I then talked briefly to DJ as I was returning to my desk. He told me about his DVD player at home and how it doesn't have many codecs to choose from. I took a bit of a breather by heating up my food in the lunchroom. I then went to my desk and ate while I worked. I know that's not healthy, but I did so. DJ then asked me if I had a document for some procedure. I asked if I could pour the sauce over my food. He was okay with that. We talked some more and then continued to work. I spent the afternoon talking briefly with the president's son (PS) and working on PC's document. I then got annoyed with PC when he sent me this e-mail. I'm sure you probably have quite a bit already on your plate, but we need to send this out as soon as possible. Any chance of getting this by end-of-day, today? Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. What an idiot! He could have said this earlier to me. I didn't like the word any in that last sentence. I am actually doing all the work here. More importantly, disturbing my work by writing such a useless e-mail is not helping to get the document written up for PC, it is? I also don't report to him. In a rare move, he only sent me the e-mail. I wrote back to him, copying my manager with my response. I basically said that I had a different set of release notes to complete earlier today that took precedence over this task. The fact that I was notified at the last minute that both sets of release notes had to be done by today has already thrown the tasks I was hoping to get to out the window. I basically ended my note, saying that he'd get my release notes when I was done writing them. I actually sent them out at 17:00. DJ had left at around 15:30. I wasn't sure why. I'll have to ask him tomorrow. PS was waiting for me in the parking lot. He takes forever to get into my car. Today, he decided to talk to me standing next to the door. I told him to get in and to talk to me in there. We made good time getting downtown. We had a minor scare when the car in front of mine partially entered the parking lot that we were going to try out and decided to back out, not realizing that I was behind him till the last minute. That was scary. What I did was drive right into the lot and circled out. I ultimately parked across the street in that lot. Coincidentally, I parked in the same spot when I was downtown to see the Barenaked Ladies. We had dinner at Quiznos. The regular folks who work there weren't working that shift. PS went with the barbequed steakhouse sub. I had the meatball. There was raspberry lemonade there, which was great. I had the M&M's cookie. It was okay. We eat got a free box of Tic Tacs for getting combos, too. It was 18:30 when we had left the restaurant. I had to stop at the bank machine to take out some money. We then went to the Air Canada Centre. It was nice not to line up. We were whisked inside quickly. We had seats on the third floor, so we checked that out. I then wanted to look at the merchandise that was on the first floor. We came back downstairs at around gate 106. There weren't any lineups. It was terrific. I was thinking of getting my usual t-shirt. Instead, I looked at the cap that someone was getting. I liked it so much that I got one for myself, too. I also got a collection of four guitar picks. I don't play the guitar, but I liked them with the Continuum logo on them. Our seats were cool. There were just the two seats in our row. It was kind of like having box seats. We didn't have to get up to let people in and out all the time. The show opened with a really good guitarist and singer. It was only until she introduced herself as Kathleen Edwards that I knew who she was. Her hair is much shorter these days. It was only until she sang "Hockey skates" that I could put a face to the voice. After she had finished singing this song, she said, "Go Sens!" There were quite a number of groans. She explained that she was originally from Ottawa. She went on to say that she now lives in Hamilton and took the GO bus to Toronto, carrying her suitcase and guitar with her. She got off at Union Station was nearly got run over by a car. She yelled out, "You asshole! Don't you know that I'm opening up for John Mayer?" That was great! She made a number of humourous and witty remarks throughout her entire set. She complained about the crappy weather and that cheering for her would be practice for cheering for John Mayer. She was terrific, doing a Dolly Parton cover song and telling us that she was in Texas last week, where it was 4șC. During the break, I asked PS if he wanted anything to eat or drink. He wanted a Coke. I went and got this Fudgesicle frosty malt cup, which was great. We talked for a bit before he decided to get up and stretch. I'd estimate a minute after he had left the area that John Mayer appeared on the stage. I have not seen him in concert since 2004 and it was nice to hear him start with "Belief," which got many screaming and people up on their feet. He was wearing his trademark sneakers, blue jeans, and a t-shirt underneath a beige long-sleeved shirt. His hair wasn't as outrageously big as it was about half a year ago. There were moments where crowd participation was necessary. We were asked to sing a couple of lines from "Why Georgia," which he said that he'll be asking himself about that for the rest of his life. In the encore, we sang along to "Your body is a wonderland." It was a nice mix of his older material and his new blues material. He showed off his talented guitar skills nicely and consistently throughout the show. I thoroughly enjoyed when he sang "I don't trust myself (with loving you)," which reminded me of being in a small nightclub listening to great music on a Friday night, despite being at a large venue like the Air Canada Centre. Too bad the three girls sitting in front of us were loud during most of the show, constantly talking to each other and taking pictures of themselves. I am normally not a huge fan of optical zoom. However, I took some nice close-up shots of him from the 300 level of the ACC. I think I'll have to change my mind on this matter. John seemed humbled by everyone cheering and screaming, saying thanks to everyone for coming out a couple of times. The crowd really liked "Slow dancing in a burning room," with John explaining that it's a song about a relationship that has ended. It's a terrific song. Yep, there were lots of screaming fans, both young and old. Again, the mix of songs he performed was perfect. He showed off his whistling skills when he performed "Stop this train" in his encore. He ended the evening off with "I'm gonna find another you." Some were complaining that his show was rather short. I thought that an hour and 45 minutes was fine. I had no complaints at all. Here is tonight's set list: Set list The show ended at 22:30. PS and I talked and walked to my car. He was nice to pay for parking. I then drove him home. I got home at around 23:25. The Minnesota Wild are still in the playoffs. The team won its first playoff game this season. Woo hoo! P.S. My comments are not working. It looks like the entire server is down. I'm going to find a new comments site soon.
